How long have you been in business?
Heart and Soul Music Studio began in 2005 in Schaumburg, IL. I have taught private voice and piano lessons for the past 9 years and have recently relocated to Overland Park, Kansas.
What is your primary product or service?
Piano lessons, preschool piano lessons, voice lessons, singing lessons.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I have been taking private music lessons since a child. I have been studying piano for 20+ years and continue my music studies with local teachers. I am currently working towards completion of a National Certified piano teacher recognition through the Music Teachers National Association. I am a member of both the Kansas City Federated Music Teachers group and the Kansas City Music Teachers Association. I have a strong background of working with children and providing training in music through my church. As a Musikgarten teacher for the past 7 years, I have had much success in working with even the youngest student. With 20+ years of private voice instruction and 8 years singing with symphony choruses, I felt that with the proper training and my background in performance, I could teach voice and be successful!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Music lessons should and are inviting, exciting, educational and tap into the heart and soul. Having several teachers myself in private music lessons, I aim to work with individual students in a way that will help them exceed. Whether its finding the true voice of a singer or reaching out to put spark and excitement into a piano lesson, my goal is to be the teacher that helps you put your heart and soul into music! I continue to study music to help me improve my teaching and performing skills. I aim to provide lessons that are an uplifting influence for good!
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I currently teach private lessons out my private residence. I do not have any plans to expand.

We live in the Oak Park subdivision, behind the Oak Park library. We are conveniently located off of 95th Street, with easy Highway 65 and I-35 access.
What type of payments do you accept?
All major credit cards, cash, personal check.
Which areas do you service?
Overland Park, Shawnee Mission, Shawnee, Lenexa, Olathe, Mission, Prairie Village, Leawood, and the Greater Kansas City area.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Barbara Githens, Owner and Private Instructor.
What are your hours of operation?
I teach Monday through Thursday typically 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. (last student at 5:30 p.m.). Lessons are scheduled at 30 or 45 minute time spots. Please contact for openings available.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
The best would be that I helped someone discover their true gifts, awakened the gift of music and helped someone make their life better through music. Music is truly the gift that keeps on giving through generations!
