Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Founded in Oct. 1999 - in business for over 15 years.
What is your primary product or service?
We provide automation consulting and technical services to increase the quality and efficiency of our manufacturing facility clients' automated processes.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
As experienced engineers, the three founders (and still the owners) of QSPEC Solutions wanted to provide automation services with a focus on the 5 core values they felt were integral to good business - Quality, Service, Partnership, Experience, and Commitment. That was the origin of the name QSPEC, and the start of a value-driven, partnership-centered automation team that delivers customized systems.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
From risk/benefit analysis to project planning, system design to implementation, validation to continued support, the QSPEC team listens, understands, and provides complete solutions. Focused on partnership, we use our skills and experience to create custom automation solutions based on the goals of each of our clients. We are the advisors, the experts, and the support to our clients, and their productivity is our ultimate concern.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We currently serve clients across the US from our new corporate headquarters in Lenexa, KS and maintain a satellite office in Raleigh-Durham, NC. We are always growing our business to better serve our partners; over the past 10 months we've grown 40%.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Northeast of 87th Street and Quivera in Lenexa, our offices are located east of Quivera on 83rd Terrace, on the South side of that street, in a brick one-story building with our sign on the front.
What type of payments do you accept?
Payment by check is most common. Our services are generally funded by client Purchase Orders, which we invoice against. We also offer support programs based on retainers, and have the capability of accepting credit cards when applicable.
Which areas do you service?
The manufacturing facilities of our clients are usually located in the United States, though we have worked on systems in international locations as well, including Mexico, China, and Norway.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
QSPEC Solutions, Inc. is still owned and run by the three founding engineers (Tim, Ken, and Jim). Tim manages business operations and sales, Jim manages technical infrastructure, and Ken manages training and resource allocation.
What are your hours of operation?
General office business hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, although our engineers are on-call for our support clients 24/7. Due to the nature of engineering services, we often work weekends and holidays to implement projects during manufacturing facility shutdowns or during the timeframes that are most convenient for our clients.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
A joining in partnership with QSPEC Solutions and the recognition of our company team as trusted advisors is the most powerful compliment we can receive - it goes beyond repeat business and emcompasses mutual success, respect, and commitment to quality.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
"Not only must we be good, but we must also be good for something." -Henry David Thoreau
